This class is designed for the Pick/MultiValue novice. It will cover basic topics which will allow you to utilize the system more efficiently and effectively. Among the topics covered will be data file and record interrelationships, TCL commands, simple Access commands, spooler commands, basic system maintenance, and querying the system using common verbs.
What you will accomplish:
Understand and visualize the relationships of accounts, files, records, attributes, multi-values, and sub-values.
Compare variable length records with variable length fields to fixed length ASCII records.
Become familiar with the delimiters used to separate fields, multi-values, and sub-values.
Create an account, setting privilege levels for the account. Discuss and review security measures.
Know and understand the difference between different TCL level verbs and commands.
Assign reports to hold files, change printer or spooler output, assign number of copies. Print information from the spooler hold files. Find information within the hold files. View information within the hold files. Determine who created the report, when it was created and how to delete spooler entries.
Start, stop, and kill printers (from within the MultiValue environment.) Know how to and understand the importance of backing up the system (from within the MultiValue environment.)
Full File-Saves versus Incremental Saves. Learn how to retrieve information from tape using T-LOADS, selective restores, account restores, and full restores. Know when to use which form to restore data. Determine if files are sized properly. Learn when and how to resize files .
